PEPPOL for NHS trusts

As an NHS trust you are increasingly under pressure to maintain and improve service levels while implementing efficiencies that save money. By connecting to PEPPOL, you will be able to connect to your supply chain digitally, issue electronic purchase orders and receive electronic shipping notices and invoices.

PEPPOL is another form of electronic data interchange (or EDI), which has existed for some time in the private sector, providing many benefits to buyers:

  • Faster transmissions
  • More accurate data
  • Improved process efficiencies
  • Greater visibility of the journey of a product
  • Provides a secure way of sending and tracing messages between trading partners
  • Assists in global trading by the use of common codes
  • Cost savings

The electronic delivery of purchase orders gives improved visibility of your demand to suppliers who can then confirm that they will fulfil the order to help your production planning. Suppliers can also provide you with advanced shipping notices, giving you early warning of supply shortage and allowing you to put contingency plans in place if required.

When the goods are ultimately delivered, you can return a delivery confirmation to the supplier so that they are aware that the delivery was successful. The confirmation will also help the supplier to invoice you accurately for faster invoicing processing. You can also provide valuable data, such as the scheduled payment date, to the supplier.

As an NHS trust you must have selected your PEPPOL Access Point by September 2016. Please call Data Interchange for a free consultation and we will help you evaluate your options.
